[Valproic Acid-Induced Lymphocytic Colitis in a Pediatric Patient: A Case report]

Microscopic colitis is an intestinal disease characterized by the development of chronic, watery, non-bloody diarrhea with normal appearing endoscopy. The entities that represent this group are collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis, which have characteristic histological features. Although microscopic colitis is considered a disease of low prevalence, studies presented in recent years show a slight increase in this pathology. It is often drug-induced and an autoimmune origin has been suggested as a trigger of inflammation. We describe the case of a pediatric patient who developed lymphocytic colitis during treatment with valproic acid, which resolved after withdrawal of the drug.
