Influence of Metabolic Factor Control on Psoriatic Arthritis Risk in Psoriasis Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study

- Poor metabolic control was defined by specific thresholds for each factor (e.g., HDL ≤40 mg/dL, TG ≥150 mg/dL, HbA1c >7%). Hazard ratios (HR) were calculated to compare PsA incidence between poorly controlled and adequately controlled groups.
Main Results:
- Elevated triglycerides (TG ≥150 mg/dL) and low high-density lipoprotein (HDL ≤40 mg/dL) were significantly associated with an increased risk of PsA (HR=1.469 and HR=1.339, respectively).
- Poor glycemic control (HbA1c >7%) also showed a significant association with higher PsA risk (HR=1.144).
- No significant association was found between poor control of LDL (≥130 mg/dL) or uric acid (UA >6 mg/dL) and the risk of developing PsA.
Conclusions:
- Management of triglyceride and HDL levels is important for potentially reducing the risk of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in patients with psoriasis (PsO).
- These findings highlight the role of metabolic health in the pathogenesis of PsA.
- Further research may explore targeted metabolic interventions to mitigate PsA risk in PsO patients.
