Abstract:
We present the case of a 26-year-old male patient who underwent a minimally invasive surgical repair of pectus excavatum (Haller index 6.5) using a 3-dimensional custom-made silicone implant manufactured by computer-aided design (based on the approach developed by Prof. Chavoin). The procedure was uneventful, except for an anticipated seroma, which was resolved. Postoperative results were satisfactory and achieved the desired aesthetic outcomes for the patient. This 3-dimensional custom-made silicone implant technique offers a viable, less invasive option for surgeons of different specialties to treat a wide spectrum of patients with asymptomatic pectus excavatum. This case also demonstrated the successful implementation of this technique in a lower resource setting, underscoring its global potential for application.
