Abstract:
Pharmaceutical analysis of injectable anticancer drug prescriptions is a key component of patient safety and therapeutic optimization within compounding units. This process often leads to pharmaceutical interventions (PI), but their coding and recognition remain highly variable across healthcare institutions. Evaluating current practices related to PI in oncology production units, identifying barriers to their documentation, and determining pharmacists' needs are major challenges. A national survey was conducted by the French Society for Oncology Pharmacy (SFPO) using an online questionnaire. The survey was structured around four themes: institutional characteristics, levels of clinical pharmacy analysis, PI, and PI management. Data were analyzed descriptively. A total of 104 healthcare institutions participated in the study. Level 2 or 3 pharmaceutical analyses were performed in 89% of the centers. The pharmaceutical analysis leading to a PI was recorded in 61% of cases. Due to a lack of appropriate tools, 50% of respondents reported that they do not code their PI. The clinical, economic, or organizational impact of PI was rarely assessed. Notably, 96% of respondents felt that PI are not sufficiently recognized, and 93% expressed a strong need for a dedicated, interoperable coding tool. This survey highlights the relevance of developing a tool to facilitate the coding and traceability of PI, in order to better valorize this specific pharmaceutical expertise.
