1Nutrition, College of Agriculture Food and Natural Resources, Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical University, Prairie View, Texas, USA.
Objective:
The purpose of this study was to determine the association of vitamin K with executive functioning and emotional regulation.
Participants:
Participants were 70 college students at a historically black university in the southeast area of the United States.
Methods:
In this archival research, secondary data, including dietary behaviors, executive functioning skills, and difficulties associated with emotional regulation, were evaluated.
Results:
The results revealed that vitamin K levels were positively associated with areas of executive functioning related to stress tolerance and emotional regulation skills associated with awareness. Negative associations were found between vitamin K and emotional regulation skills related to nonacceptance, impulse, and strategy.
Conclusions And Implications:
Vitamin K levels are significantly related to executive functioning and emotional regulation skills. Practitioners and researchers should educate about the importance of Vitamin K-rich foods for cognitive and mental health outcomes among college students.
