Abstract:
Oxaliplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that is commonly used in the treatment of colorectal cancer and other types of cancers. Despite its widespread use, the efficacy of oxaliplatin is frequently undermined by the development of resistance. Recent advances in RNA biology have shown the important roles of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in modulating cancer progression and response to chemotherapeutic agents. These transcripts can influence sensitivity to oxaliplatin by regulating key pathways such as DNA damage repair, apoptosis, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. This article explores the mechanistic roles of circRNAs in oxaliplatin resistance, their potential as predictive biomarkers, and future therapeutic strategies to overcome treatment limitations.

Types of RNA
Three main types of RNA are involved in protein synthesis: messenger RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). These RNAs perform diverse functions and can be broadly classified as protein-coding or non-coding RNA. Non-coding RNAs play important roles in the regulation of gene expression in response to developmental and environmental changes. Non-coding RNAs in prokaryotes can be manipulated to develop more effective antibacterial drugs for human or animal use.

Cancer Therapies
However, cancer treatments can pose several challenges, as therapies used to kill cancer cells are generally also toxic to normal cells. Moreover, cancer cells mutate rapidly and can develop resistance to chemical agents or radiation therapy. Besides, all types of cancer cells may not respond to the same therapy. Some cancer cells respond to one...
