Background:
Introducing the Effortless Perfectionism Scale (EPS), a user-friendly 10-item self-report questionnaire designed to gauge the level of effortless perfectionism within individuals. In this current research, our main objective was to assess the psychometrics of the Farsi version of the EPS.
Methods:
This study employed a descriptive-correlational design to examine the relationships among variables. The participants were the researcher's university students, both male and female. A total of 267 students took part in the study and completed the questionnaire. The Perfectionistic Self-Presentation Scale (PSPS), the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS), and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) were used to measure concurrent validity. The analysis of the data and psychometric assessment of the Effortless Perfectionism Scale (EPS) were conducted using SPSS version 26 and AMOS version 23.
Results:
The outcomes concerning face validity and content validity unequivocally established that the EPS items are well-suited for the Iranian students, necessitating no exclusion or alteration. Construct validity was examined using confirmatory factor analysis, which indicated a good fit of the measurement model and appropriate factor loadings, demonstrating the construct validity of the instrument (RMSEA = 0.075, CMIN/DF = 2.50, PNFI = 0.556, PCFI = 0.567, IFI = 0.972, TLI = 0.951, CFI = 0.971). However, the analysis indicated that the AVE values suggest the absence of acceptable convergent validity. The reliability of the instrument was acceptable (Cronbach's alpha = 0.885). The analysis revealed significant positive correlations between the EPS, perfectionistic self-presentation (0.488), depression (0.454), anxiety (0.334), and stress (0.293) and significant negative correlation between EPS with life satisfaction.
Conclusions:
In the meantime, the researchers observed a noteworthy negative correlation (-0.247) between the EPS and life satisfaction. Based on the findings, it appears that the Farsi version of the EPS has good psychometric properties, making it a dependable instrument for exploring the characteristics of the Iranian population.
