[Hypnosis in the management of perioperative anxiety]

Abstract:
Trait anxiety is the most common mental health disorder, while state anxiety, or reactive anxiety, is a physiological response that may be inappropriate. This type of anxiety is common in the perioperative period and is a target for treatment. Hypnosis reduces the sympathetic activation associated with stress and increases the parasympathetic tone linked to relaxation. It is therefore a non-pharmacological strategy for managing anxiety.
