Abstract:
Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by visceral hypersensitivity. The regulatory mechanisms of visceral hypersensitivity have not been fully understood. In recent years, noncoding RNAs such as microRNAs, circular RNAs, and long noncoding RNAs have attracted considerable attention for their role in the development of IBS. Their influence on regulating visceral hypersensitivity, in particular, has been a key focus, highlighting their potential in the pathogenetic mechanisms of IBS. This paper synthesizes current knowledge in the field and discusses the molecular roles of ncRNAs in inducing the visceral hypersensitivity phenomenon in IBS. Relevant experimental studies are reviewed to reveal the mechanisms of ncRNAs in intestinal hyperalgesia and dysfunction. The findings may bring innovations to the diagnosis and treatment of IBS. This review also presents the potential application of ncRNAs as future therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers for IBS. It aims to provide a comprehensive perspective on the complexity of visceral hypersensitivity regulation by ncRNAs in IBS, providing a scientific basis for future research directions and the development of therapeutic strategies.
