Abstract:
The global consumption of ultra-processed beverages (UPBS) has increased markedly in recent years. This review aims to assess the health impacts of UPBS by evaluating and analyzing relevant literature published between 2011 and 2025, sourced from the PubMed database, using bibliometric methods. The literature analysis reveals that the primary research focus lies in the association between UPB consumption and conditions such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases, as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms. This review further explores global consumption trends and addresses various aspects including foundational theories, health effects, biomarkers, existing controversies, and future research prospects. A detailed examination is conducted on the relationship between UPBS and a range of diseases, including obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, social and psychological dysfunction, cancer, and gut microbiota alterations. Additionally, potential directions for future research are discussed, with the objective of offering theoretical insights for the responsible development and regulation of UPBS.
