Self-Report Tests of Personality01:22

Self-Report Tests of Personality

733
Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. One of the most prominent examples is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), initially developed in the 1940s to assess abnormal personality traits.

Assessment of the Cardiovascular System I: Subjective Data

737
A thorough health history and physical assessment are essential for identifying cardiovascular disease (CVD) symptoms and distinguishing them from other health issues.
Initial Enquiry
Ask the patient about their primary concern and thoroughly explore all reported symptoms.
Medical History
Investigate past illnesses affecting the cardiovascular system, such as angina, anemia, rheumatic fever, congenital heart disease, stroke, thrombophlebitis, dysrhythmias, varicosities
Inquire about symptoms...

Area of Science:

  • Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Psychometrics

Background:

  • Assessing the value individuals place on daily activities is crucial in stroke rehabilitation.
  • The Occupational Value with pre-defined items (OVal-pd) questionnaire was developed to measure this value.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Swedish OVal-pd questionnaire.
  • Assessed were floor/ceiling effects, internal consistency, construct validity, responsiveness, stability, and measurement error.
  • The study focused on stroke survivors with preserved independence and cognitive function.

Main Methods:

  • Secondary analysis of 95 stroke patients from a randomized controlled trial with 14-month follow-up.
  • Participants completed the OVal-pd, quality of life, emotional status, and mental fatigue questionnaires.
validity
well-being
  • Statistical analyses included Cronbach's α, Pearson's correlation, ROC analysis, and intraclass correlations.
  • Main Results:

    • The Swedish OVal-pd exhibited good construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest stability.
    • No floor or ceiling effects were observed.
    • Responsiveness evaluation was limited by minimal changes in mental fatigue over the follow-up period.

    Conclusions:

    • The 18-item Swedish OVal-pd is a suitable tool for clinical and research use in stroke rehabilitation.
    • Further clinical trials are recommended to fully establish its utility.
    • The OVal-pd can enhance communication between stroke patients and occupational therapists and support comparisons.
