A preliminary checklist of the Diptera of Armenia

This paper presents the first comprehensive checklist of the Diptera of Armenia, encompassing 53 families and more than 1361 species, including 106 species recorded for the first time in the country. These new records significantly expand the known dipteran fauna of the region, highlighting both the biological richness of Armenia and the substantial gaps that remain in our knowledge of the Diptera of the region. New records are given in the families Anthomyiidae, Muscidae, Scathophagidae and Sciomyzidae. The checklist has been compiled through a synthesis of historical literature, museum collections, and recent field surveys, and will provide an essential reference point for future faunistic, ecological, and conservation studies. Given the ecological sensitivity of many dipteran groups and their utility as bioindicators, this baseline inventory will contribute not only to taxonomy and biogeography but also to broader environmental monitoring efforts within Armenia.
