[Responding to the call for less medicalized birth: moving beyond the nature vs. technology opposition]

This article examines contemporary demands expressed by certain women for a less medicalized approach to childbirth. Rather than rejecting medicine or technology as such, these claims call into question the current organization of obstetric care, often perceived as overly standardized, impersonal, or inattentive to subjective experience. Drawing on a philosophical analysis informed in particular by the thought of Canguilhem and Bergson, we argue for moving beyond the traditional opposition between nature and technology. Childbirth is thereby conceived as a normative biological process that integrates medical techniques while simultaneously respecting the singularity of women's lived experiences. The objective is to envision an obstetrics that reconciles safety requirements with the subjective and existential experiences of those giving birth.
