Summary

Postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy may increase the risk of bacterial translocation (BT) after ileostomy closure in colorectal cancer patients. Higher C-reactive protein levels were observed in patients who developed BT.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the risk factors associated with bacterial translocation (BT) following ileostomy closure in patients who underwent colorectal cancer surgery.

  • A retrospective analysis of 91 patients undergoing ileostomy closure post-colorectal cancer surgery.
  • Patients were categorized into two groups: those who developed BT (fever >38°C without a clear cause) and those who did not.
  • Data on patient background, surgical, and postoperative factors were analyzed.
