Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the impact of an equity-focused quality improvement learning collaborative (QILC) on contraceptive care delivery within CHCs.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of innovative performance measurement in improving contraceptive care.

Main Methods:

  • A 9-month QILC was implemented, featuring learning sessions, resources, peer learning, and technical assistance.
  • Performance was measured using the Person-Centered Contraceptive Counseling (PCCC) measure and two electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs): Contraceptive Care Screening (CCS-SINC) and Contraceptive Use (CU-SINC).
  • Data were collected pre- and post-QILC through patient surveys and electronic health records.

Main Results:

  • Median increase in CCS-SINC was 14.4%.
  • Median relative increase in CU-SINC was 4.9%.
  • Five out of nine CHCs improved their PCCC scores, with three surpassing the 80% benchmark for high-quality care.

Conclusions:

  • Participation in an equity-focused, measurement-driven QILC improved person-centered contraceptive care delivery.
  • Quality improvement initiatives can effectively enhance reproductive healthcare services in primary care settings.
