Uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and depression: evidence from a Chinese longitudinal cohort
1Endocrinology Department of the Second People's Hospital of Yubei District, Chongqing, China.
Abstract:
After reading "The association between uric acid to high-density cholesterol ratio (UHR) and depression: A population-based cross-sectional study" by Wang et al. We conducted longitudinal study investigating the UHR-depression relationship in 4307 middle-aged and older Chinese adults from the CHARLS cohort. Contrary to prior cross-sectional findings in US adults by Wang et al., lower baseline UHR was associated with higher depression risk, though this weakened after adjusting for confounders. ROC analysis demonstrated UHR's superior predictive power over individual biomarkers (SUA or HDL). More studies are warranted to investigate the reasons for the discrepant findings.
