  • To assess the influence of five medication classes on tau PET tracer uptake.
  • To evaluate potential binding competition with MK6240 and Flortaucipir.

Main Methods:

  • Examined 292 participants (cognitively unimpaired and impaired) from the HEAD study.
  • Compared Standardized Uptake Value Ratio (SUVR) of MK6240 and Flortaucipir in Medial Temporal Lobe and Neotemporal Cortex.
  • Utilized linear regressions corrected for age, sex, education, and MoCA score, with Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons.

Main Results:

  • Anti-diabetic medications showed a trend towards lower SUVR in the Neotemporal Cortex for both tracers in cognitively impaired, Aβ-positive individuals.
  • This trend was not statistically significant after correction for multiple comparisons.

Conclusions:

  • No significant associations were found between the studied medications and MK6240 or Flortaucipir uptake.
  • These findings suggest current medications do not substantially interfere with these tau PET tracers.
