Alzheimer's disease (AD) elevates extrasynaptic GluN2B (ES-GluN2B) and decreases polysialylated neural cell adhesion molecule (PSA-NCAM) in the brain. Amyloid-beta (Aβ) may drive these changes by downregulating PSA-NCAM synthesis enzymes, suggesting therapeutic targets for AD.
