Tumor progression is a phenomenon where the pre-formed tumor acquires successive mutations to become clinically more aggressive and malignant. In the 1950s, Foulds first described the stepwise progression of cancer cells through successive stages.

Summary

Cytokine-induced apoptosis inhibitor 1 (CIAPIN1) shows altered expression in colorectal cancer (CRC). Low CIAPIN1 mRNA and plasma protein levels correlate with poorer survival, suggesting CIAPIN1 as a potential prognostic biomarker for CRC.

Background:

  • Cytokine-induced apoptosis inhibitor 1 (CIAPIN1) is an anti-apoptotic protein found in various cell types, including cancer cells.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between CIAPIN1 mRNA and protein expression and clinicopathological factors in CRC patients.

  • Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and RT-qPCR were used to measure CIAPIN1 protein and mRNA levels.
