Binary colloidal superlattices (BCSLs) assembled from polymer-tethered inorganic nanocrystals have received considerable attention since the coassembly strategy allows the artificial design of new multifunctional materials. However, constructing well-defined BCSLs that have specific internal configurations from geometrically distinct building blocks remains a significant challenge. Here, we report the preparation of two-dimensional (2D) BCSLs with periodically cubic symmetry through interfacial coassembly of polystyrene-tethered anisotropic gold nanocubes (AuNCs@PS) and isotropic gold nanospheres (AuNPs@PS). The specific distribution of AuNPs@PS within the binary assemblies is mainly determined by the entropic interaction between the two components, which can be quantitatively measured by the proposed effective size ratio parameter (λ). In addition, by tuning the core diameter of AuNPs@PS building blocks and the molecular weight of the polymer ligands, precise control over the λ values and the internal conformations of the resulting binary assemblies can be achieved. This strategy establishes a robust platform for the construction of BCSLs with precisely controlled internal configurations, paving the way for the rational design of advanced functional materials with potential applications in catalysis, electronic devices, energy storage, and conversion.

Polymer Classification: Crystallinity
Crystalline domains are the regions where polymer chains are aligned in an orderly manner and held together in proximity by intermolecular forces. For example, chains in the crystalline domains of polyethylene and nylon are bound together by van der Waals...
