Abstract:
A humanitarian mission involves complex personal and cross-cultural issues. In the unique situation in Lebanon, the role of a French volunteer raises questions of guilt, symbolic debt, the savior complex, and the importance of decentering. This account questions the limits of aid and defends the need for a relational ethic that respects differences.
