Abstract:
An optimized Biginelli multicomponent reaction enabled the synthesis of a series of quinoline-dihydropyrimidinone/thione hybrids (4a-h), revealing compounds with strong dual biological activity. Among them, 4 h showed the better anticancer effect, reducing the viability of MCF-7 and HeLa cells with IC50 values of 37.67 and 52.45 μg/mL. Compounds 4e, 4f and 4 h also displayed good antimicrobial activity and supported by molecular docking, which confirmed stable and specific interactions within microbial enzyme pockets. DFT studies clarified their electronic features and electrochemical analyses revealed their redox-responsive nature.
