Background:

Digital technologies are transforming oral healthcare.
Intra-oral cameras (IOCs) are a key digital tool for diagnosing and treating oral diseases.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the applications, challenges, and future prospects of intra-oral camera (IOC) usage in Iran.
To understand the perspectives of dentists, patients, and digital technology experts on IOCs.

Main Methods:

Qualitative focus group design with 35 participants (dentists, patients, experts).
Thematic analysis using the Braun and Clarke method to identify patterns in IOC usage.

Main Results:

Identified six key IOC applications: diagnosis, patient education, documentation, referral, teleconsultation, and student training.
Noted challenges including technical issues, financial constraints, training needs, and patient acceptance.

Conclusions:

IOCs enhance diagnostic accuracy, patient education, documentation, and communication in dentistry.
Barriers like technical problems, cost, and training hinder widespread IOC adoption.
Future advancements in image quality, AI, and sensors can improve IOC utility, but current challenges must be addressed.
