- To analyze the impact of methadone on breakthrough opioid requirements (Morphine Milligram Equivalents - MME) and performance status (ECOG, PPS).

- Retrospective chart review of 27 patients with CIBP receiving methadone therapy for at least 28 days.
- Pain scores (NRS) and daily breakthrough MME were recorded before and after methadone initiation.
- Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and Palliative Performance Scale (PPS) scores were assessed pre- and post-methadone.
Main Results:
- Significant reduction in NRS pain scores from 7 (IQR 5-8) to 4 (IQR 4-5) (p=0.013).
- Significant decrease in daily breakthrough MME from 90 to 31 (p=0.021).
- No significant changes observed in ECOG or PPS scores (p>0.104).
Conclusions:
- Methadone is an effective option for reducing pain intensity in patients with CIBP.
- Methadone significantly decreases the requirement for breakthrough opioid medications in CIBP.
- Methadone did not significantly alter overall performance status (ECOG, PPS) in this patient cohort.
