Purpose of the Study:

  • Evaluate temporal region vascular anatomy using microvascular imaging.
  • Assess implications for anatomical planning of filler injections.

Main Methods:

  • Microvascular imaging visualized superficial temporal artery (62 patients) and deep temporal artery (56 patients).
  • Arterial depth was measured and analyzed concerning age, gender, and BMI.
  • Intraclass correlation assessed measurement consistency.

Main Results:

  • Lower BMI and younger age correlated with thinner soft tissue.
  • Deep temporal artery proximity to bone: 0.3 mm; superficial temporal artery proximity to skin: 1.15 mm.
  • Excellent interobserver agreement in measurements.

Conclusions:

  • Superficial and deep temporal arteries exhibit variable depths, sometimes near the skin or periosteum.
  • Consider arterial variations when planning temple filler injections.
  • Microvascular imaging can aid in visualizing vessels and identifying high-risk zones.
