Mastering the Flabby Ridge with Precision Impression Techniques in Prosthodontics-A Case Series

Flabby ridges, characterized by mobile and displaceable soft tissue, pose significant challenges in prosthodontic rehabilitation by compromising denture retention, stability, and patient comfort. Accurate impression techniques are critical for minimizing tissue distortion and achieving a functional prosthesis, particularly in long-term denture wearers. This case series presents three clinical scenarios using different impression approaches tailored to the degree of tissue flabbiness and patient-specific factors. The first case involved a 60-year-old man with flabby tissue in both arches, managed using a dual-tray window technique to control tissue displacement and enhance retention. The second case, a 62-year-old woman with a history of blood cancer, was rehabilitated with a modified maxillary window technique using impression plaster and the admixed technique for the mandibular arch. The third case, a 72-year-old woman with Parkinsonism, was treated using a one-part impression method incorporating selective perforations to minimize pressure on flabby areas. Across all cases, customized impression strategies resulted in dentures with improved fit, stability, and patient satisfaction. This series underscores the importance of selecting impression techniques based on individual tissue characteristics, medical history, and patient comfort, demonstrating that personalized approaches can effectively manage flabby ridges without surgical intervention.
