Single Precursor Access to Bifunctional Pyrazole-Triazole Energetic Materials with Tunable Stability and Sensitivity

A novel series of primary and secondary energetic materials featuring a unique fusion of pyrazole and 1,2,4-triazole backbones with diverse explosophoric substituents has been synthesized via efficient methodologies. This rare structural motif was accessed with high synthetic efficiency and enhanced energetic performance. Comprehensive characterization through various spectroscopic techniques and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) confirmed the structures and purity of the compounds. Among the series, compounds 2a and 7 were identified as promising primary explosives, surpassing most of the reported metal and metal-free primary explosives. Notably, secondary explosives 5 and 8 demonstrated outstanding detonation performances, exceeding the benchmark explosive RDX. These results describe the strong potential of this novel class of fused heterocyclic energetic materials for next-generation primary and secondary explosive formulations.
