Background:
Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is characterized by repeated episodes of ankle instability and functional impairments, often resulting in reduced quality of life and physical activity. This review aims to synthesize existing evidence on the effectiveness of multimodal rehabilitation and resistive exercises in patients with CAI, primarily focusing on the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) scale as a key outcome.
Methods:
A comprehensive search strategy was employed across multiple databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, adhering to predefined eligibility criteria. The included studies were critically appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist, and data were systematically charted and analyzed.
Results:
The findings highlight that multimodal rehabilitation and resistive training significantly improve functional outcomes and secondary benefits such as enhanced strength and proprioception. Despite these positive outcomes, heterogeneity in intervention protocols and study designs necessitates further standardization.
Conclusion:
This review underscores the clinical relevance of integrating multimodal approaches in managing CAI and identifies gaps for future research.
