Influence of novel rollover pad on pressure injuries in nursing home residents: A randomized controlled trial
1Head Nurse in the Nursing Home, Shuang Ho Hospital, Taipei Medical University, New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Objective:
To investigate the effectiveness of a novel rollover pad in preventing and improving the pressure injuries (PIs) of nursing home residents.
Methods:
A randomized controlled trial was conducted in a hospital-affiliated nursing home in Taiwan. The participants were randomly assigned to an experimental group (rollover pad, n = 15) or a control group (n = 15). PI stages were classified using the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel system, and wound area was measured by length × width (cm2).
Results:
Although the two groups showed no significant difference in changes in PI area after the intervention, participants in the experimental group demonstrated greater improvements in PI stage compared to those in the control group, and the percentage of participants in the experimental group without PIs increased from 33.3 % to 66.7 %.
Conclusion:
The novel rollover pad effectively promoted improvements in PI stages and increased the proportion of participants without PIs.
