Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the outcomes of vermilion myomucosal advancement flaps in reconstructing full-thickness lip defects.
  • To assess aesthetic satisfaction, scar quality, and sensory recovery post-surgery.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 17 patients with vermilion defects (<50% lip width) reconstructed with myomucosal advancement flaps.
  • Outcomes assessed at 12 months postoperatively.
  • Aesthetic and scar assessments using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS); sensory testing via Semmes-Weinstein Monofilament (SWM).

Conclusions:

  • The vermilion myomucosal advancement flap is a safe, reliable, single-stage solution for small to moderate vermilion defects.
  • The procedure yields superior aesthetic, functional, and sensory results with minimal morbidity.
  • A 2:1 flap-to-defect length ratio is recommended for surgical planning.
