Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

6.0K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Reducing Line Loss01:18

Reducing Line Loss

370
In a three-phase circuit, line loss is an indicator of energy dissipated as heat due to the resistance of transmission lines. To address this, incorporating transformers into the system—a step-up transformer at the source and a step-down transformer at the load—is a strategic solution. Two three-phase transformers are introduced to improve this.
With a step-up transformer at the source, the voltage is increased, thereby reducing the current in the transmission lines since power loss in...

Methods of reducing fever01:22

Methods of reducing fever

1.2K
The signs and symptoms of fever include hot and dry skin, flushed face, thirst, muscle aches, anorexia, headache, tachycardia, tachypnea, and fatigue. Elevated body temperature is reduced using two methods: pharmacological and nonpharmacological. Proper identification and treatment of the root cause of a fever is of utmost importance.

One-Compartment Model: IV Infusion01:09

One-Compartment Model: IV Infusion

498
Intravenous (IV) infusion is often utilized when continuous and controlled drug delivery is necessary, such as during surgery or in the treatment of chronic diseases. This method offers numerous advantages, including immediate drug action, precise control over dosage, and bypassing the first-pass metabolism.
The one-compartment model for IV infusion uses mathematical equations to describe the rate of change in drug quantity in the body. At steady-state or infusion equilibrium, the drug input...

Two-Compartment Open Model: IV Infusion

573
A two-compartment model is a vital tool in pharmacokinetics, providing an essential understanding of drug behavior, especially for those administered via zero-order intravenous infusion. This model outlines two compartments: the central compartment, where elimination occurs, and the peripheral compartment.
The model illustrates the decrease in plasma drug concentration from the central compartment with a specific equation. It shows that under steady-state conditions, the drug's input rate...

Adaptations that Reduce Water Loss01:57

Adaptations that Reduce Water Loss

28.0K
Though evaporation from plant leaves drives transpiration, it also results in loss of water. Because water is critical for photosynthetic reactions and other cellular processes, evolutionary pressures on plants in different environments have driven the acquisition of adaptations that reduce water loss.

Summary

A new dashboard and toolkit significantly reduced central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and home infusion-onset bloodstream infections (HiOB) in home infusion settings. These tools proved effective in preventing bloodstream infections and improving patient safety.

Area of Science:

  • Infection Control and Prevention
  • Healthcare Quality Improvement
  • Home Healthcare

Background:

  • Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and home infusion-onset bloodstream infections (HiOB) pose significant risks in home infusion therapy.
  • Effective strategies are needed to monitor and prevent these infections in home care settings.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of a novel dashboard and prevention toolkit for CLABSI and HiOB.
  • To assess the impact of these tools on infection rates in home infusion agencies.

Main Methods:

  • A mixed-methods study involving five home infusion agencies.
  • Utilized an interrupted time series analysis to assess infection rates before and after the implementation of a comparative dashboard and a CLABSI prevention toolkit.
  • Employed surveys and interviews to gather qualitative data on user experiences and perceived barriers.

Main Results:

  • Dashboard implementation was associated with a decrease in both CLABSI and HiOB rates.
  • Subsequent implementation of the prevention toolkit led to a further reduction in CLABSI and HiOB rates.
  • Qualitative analysis revealed themes related to tool usability, adaptability, user education, and implementation challenges.

Conclusions:

  • The dashboard and prevention toolkit were independently associated with reductions in CLABSI and HiOB.
  • The findings support the integration of such tools into home infusion practice to enhance patient safety and reduce infection burdens.
