Bortezomib, used for multiple myeloma, can rarely cause hearing loss (ototoxicity). Early treatment with intratympanic dexamethasone may help recover hearing and allow continued chemotherapy.
Area of Science:
- Otolaryngology
- Oncology
- Pharmacology
Background:
- Bortezomib is a proteasome inhibitor commonly used for multiple myeloma (MM).
- While peripheral neuropathy is a known side effect, bortezomib-induced ototoxicity is rare and underrecognized.
- This report details a case of sudden hearing loss linked to bortezomib treatment.
