Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of the multiple silk ligation and traction technique in endoscopic placement of intestinal obstruction catheters. Methods: Silk ligations were performed between the silicone beads of the leading tip, behind the anterior balloon, behind the posterior balloon, and 20 cm distal to the posterior balloon of the catheter. The silk threads were grasped with biopsy forceps through the endoscopic channel, and the catheter was gradually tractioned to the distal descending duodenum. Subsequently, sterile water was injected into the anterior balloon, the guidewire was removed, and the catheter was secured. Results: Clinical data of 12 patients who underwent endoscopic intestinal obstruction catheter placement using the multiple silk ligation and traction technique at Shengzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhejiang Province, from April 2021 to November 2024, were retrospectively analyzed. Successful placement were achieved in all 12 patients with a single attempt, with a success rate as high as 100%. The average placement time was (19.5±6.9) minutes. Conclusion: The application of the multiple silk ligation and traction technique in endoscopic intestinal obstruction catheter placement is safe and effective. It reduces material consumption and shortens placement time, particularly in challenging cases, significantly improving the success rate of catheter placement.
