Leveraging Large Language Models to Improve the Readability of German Online Medical Texts: Evaluation Study

Large language models (LLMs) can improve the readability of German patient education materials (PEMs), making complex medical information more accessible. While LLMs showed potential, they did not consistently reduce text complexity to an eighth-grade reading level.
