Abstract:
The emerging field of nutritional psychiatry recognizes the impact of diet and nutrition on mental health and well-being. Mounting evidence links poor diet to the exacerbation of mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression, as well as other neuropsychiatric conditions. This article summarizes current evidence on nutrition and mental health, with a focus on dietary patterns. It concludes with practical strategies for clinicians to help patients improve their dietary intake for optimal mental health.
