This study presents a new surgical technique for chronic patellar tendon ruptures using hamstring autograft augmentation. The method combines direct repair with adjustable fixation, successfully restoring knee function and patellar height.
Area of Science:
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Sports Medicine
- Biomedical Engineering
Background:
- Chronic patellar tendon ruptures are challenging due to tissue quality and retraction.
- Pre-existing tendinopathy complicates direct repair of patellar tendon injuries.
- Traditional methods may not adequately address complex patellar tendon defects.

Steel Fastening Techniques
Rivets are cylindrical steel fasteners with a specially designed head. During application, rivets are heated until white-hot and then inserted through pre-drilled holes in the steel sections. A pneumatic hammer is used to shape the exposed end into a second head, securing the sections together.
