Summary

Ischemic tolerance, a natural protective mechanism, can be transferred via blood plasma. This offers a novel treatment for ischemia-reperfusion injury, especially in patients unable to develop tolerance.

Background:

Ischemia-reperfusion injury is a significant clinical challenge, particularly in the elderly, with limited treatment options.
The natural ischemic tolerance phenomenon, induced by mild stressors, offers potent protection but diminishes with age and comorbidities.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the clinical application of ischemic tolerance.
To demonstrate the transferability of complete ischemic tolerance from healthy donors to patients.

Main Methods:

Inducing ischemic tolerance in young, healthy donors through successive exposure to two stressors.
Collecting and administering activated blood plasma containing tolerance effectors to recipients.

Main Results:

Activated plasma from tolerant donors contains transferable effectors of ischemic tolerance.
This plasma can confer protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury and other impending injuries.

Conclusions:

Ischemic tolerance can be effectively transferred between individuals via blood plasma.
This approach presents a promising therapeutic strategy for ischemia-reperfusion injury and related conditions.
