Assessing Blood pressure using a doppler ultrasound01:19

Assessing Blood pressure using a doppler ultrasound

2.5K
To obtain accurate blood pressure measurements in clinical settings, especially when traditional methods are insufficient, healthcare professionals utilize the Doppler ultrasound technique. This method uses high-frequency sound waves to detect blood flow within the arteries, which is crucial for patients with conditions that complicate circulatory system assessment.

Organic Compounds

57.2K
All living things are formed mostly of carbon compounds called organic compounds. The category of organic compounds includes both natural and synthetic compounds that contain carbon. Although a single, precise definition has yet to be identified by the chemistry community, most agree that a defining trait of organic molecules is the presence of carbon as the principal element, bonded to hydrogen and other carbon atoms. However, some carbon-containing compounds such as carbonates, cyanides, and...

Pure substances consist of only one type of matter. A pure substance can be an element or a compound. An element consists of only one type of atom, while a compound consists of two or more types of atoms held together by a chemical bond.
Elements
Elements are classified as atomic or molecular based on the nature of their basic units. They are unique forms of matter with specific chemical and physical properties that cannot break down into smaller substances by ordinary chemical reactions. There...

Solubility of Ionic Compounds02:55

Solubility of Ionic Compounds

68.1K
Solubility is the measure of the maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved in a given quantity of solvent at a given temperature and pressure. Solubility is usually measured in molarity (M) or moles per liter (mol/L). A compound is termed soluble if it dissolves in water.

Area of Science:

  • Food Science
  • Biotechnology
  • Green Chemistry

Background:

  • Strawberry pomace is a phenolic-rich byproduct with significant valorization potential.
  • Efficient extraction methods are needed to harness the bioactive compounds from strawberry pomace.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To optimize ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of strawberry pomace.
  • To evaluate the bioactivity of the extracted compounds.
  • To assess the environmental friendliness of the UAE process.

Main Methods:

  • Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) was employed to extract bioactive compounds.
  • AGREEprep metric was used for greenness assessment.
  • Artificial neural network (ANN) modeling was utilized for parameter optimization.

Main Results:

  • Optimized UAE conditions yielded extracts with high total phenolic (16.49 mg GAE/g) and flavonoid (2.10 mg RE/g) content.
  • The extract demonstrated significant antioxidant activity (DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP) and enzyme inhibition (tyrosinase, acetylcholinesterase).
  • The UAE process achieved a greenness score of 0.68/1, indicating environmental friendliness.

Conclusions:

  • UAE is an efficient and sustainable method for strawberry pomace valorization.
  • ANN modeling provides a robust approach for optimizing extraction parameters.
  • The bioactive extracts hold promise for food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries.
