Abstract:
Here, we report a TiO2 nanocrystal/porous carbon yolk-shell composite that exhibits excellent electrocatalytic performance, featuring a high onset potential and >90% H2O2 selectivity. Systematic analyses reveal that enhanced oxygen functionalization and reduced TiO2 nanocrystal size are key to simultaneously improving selectivity and activity. The optimized catalyst, TNC/C-4, further demonstrates superior electro-Fenton degradation of phenol, enabling rapid and efficient pollutant removal.

Classifying Matter by Composition
According to its composition, the matter can be classified into two broad categories — pure substances and mixtures.
A pure substance is a form of matter that has a constant composition throughout with uniform properties. For example, any sample of sucrose has the same composition and same physical properties, such as melting point, color, and sweetness, regardless of the source from which it is isolated.
A mixture is composed of two or...

Dehydration Synthesis
Dehydration synthesis (also called a condensation reaction) is the chemical process in which two molecules covalently link together to form a new molecule, along with the release of a water molecule. Many physiologically important compounds form by dehydration synthesis reactions, such as complex carbohydrates, proteins, DNA, and RNA.
Synthesis of carbohydrates
Sugar molecules are covalently linked together by dehydration synthesis. During the reaction, the hydroxyl (-OH) group from...
