Abstract:
3D printing has developed a new era of biosensors, offering unparalleled opportunities to address complex medical issues through precision diagnostics and individualized treatment. This paper investigates the role of 3D-printed biosensors in enhancing medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and point-of-care applications. These biosensors with suitable sensitivity, customization, and scalability are made by combining functional materials, including conductive polymers, nanocomposites, and bioactive inks, with sophisticated 3D printing methods, such as fused deposition modeling (FDM), direct ink writing (DIW), stereolithography (SLA), and selective laser sintering (SLS). Emphasizing their capacity to identify biomarkers in real-time with minimal invasiveness, we investigate their applications in detecting and monitoring diseases, including cardiovascular disorders, cancer, infectious diseases, diabetes, neurodegenerative conditions, wound infections, and hypertension. New approaches, including self-healing materials and biodegradable platforms, are rigorously examined in terms of key issues such as material biocompatibility, resolution limits, biofouling, and regulatory hurdles. Emphasizing breakthroughs in eco-friendly manufacturing, this study highlights the potential of 3D-printed biosensors in healthcare to enhance diagnostic accuracy and promote global health equity, paving the way for next-generation precision medicine.
