Background:
Ventricular septal rupture (VSR) and ventricular free wall rupture, are 2 lethal complications of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Surgical and endovascular transcatheter techniques have been described in both, but with exceedingly high mortality rates.
Case Summary:
We describe a complex case of double insult injury after AMI resulting in ventricular septal rupture and pseudoaneurysm treated using predictive 3-dimensional (3D) printing and first-of-its-kind hybrid technique to effectively repair both defects.
Discussion:
This case report highlights a novel hybrid repair technique, the role of predictive 3D modeling, and a successful collaborative heart team approach to a complex clinical case.
Take-Home Messages:
The heart team is indispensable when caring for patients with complex cardiac scenarios. Multimodality cardiac imaging, including 3D printing, is a powerful tool for clinical decision-making. A hybrid surgical and transcatheter technique is a safe and reasonable strategy to overcome high surgical risk of 2 major mechanical complications of AMI.
