Background:

Individualised care is crucial for person-centred care, tailoring interventions to patient needs.
Intensive care units (ICUs) present challenges to individualised care due to technical environments and communication barriers.
Nurses' job satisfaction is linked to individualised care, but specific satisfaction factors remain unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the relationship between critical care nurses' job satisfaction and their provision of individualised care.
To determine how specific job satisfaction factors influence the practical application of person-centred care in ICUs.
To analyze two dimensions of individualised care: nursing activities supporting patient individuality and nurses' perceptions of maintaining individuality.

Main Methods:

Secondary analysis of a cross-sectional survey data from 306 registered ICU nurses in Poland.
Utilized the Kuopio University Hospital Job Satisfaction Scale and the Individualised Care Scale-Nurse.
Employed structural equation modelling to analyze the data.

Main Results:

The model demonstrated excellent fit, explaining 48.6% of variance in individualised care actions and 46.6% in perceptions.
Positive associations were found between individualised care activities and self-fulfilment, leadership, workplace autonomy, and resource distribution.
Negative predictors for individualised care activities included professional development and motivating work organization.

Conclusions:

Job satisfaction is a significant determinant of individualised care delivery in ICUs.
Supportive leadership, professional fulfillment, and equitable resource allocation foster person-centred practices.
Unmet expectations in professional development and organizational motivation can impede individualised care provision.
