Background:

  • Cervical disc pathologies (CDP) and loss of cervical lordosis (LCL) are common spinal conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effects of CDP and LCL on auditory function.
  • To identify anatomical sites affected by these cervical spine conditions.
  • To utilize objective and subjective audiological assessments.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective controlled study included 98 participants (57 with CDP, 41 controls).
  • Cervical disc pathology was diagnosed via MRI, and LCL was assessed using cervical radiographs.
  • Audiological evaluations included pure-tone audiometry and otoacoustic emissions.

Main Results:

  • Patients with CDP demonstrated significantly higher speech and high-frequency hearing thresholds compared to controls (p=0.04, p=0.02).

  • Tinnitus severity and presence did not differ significantly between groups based on LCL or CDP.

Conclusions:

  • Cervical disc pathologies are linked to elevated hearing thresholds.
