Background:

Antibiotic prophylaxis is crucial in preventing surgical site infections.
Previous guidelines from the French Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (SFAR) were published in 2018.
An update was necessary due to new literature and evolving practices.

Purpose of the Study:

To provide updated guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis in surgery and interventional medicine.
To evaluate current practices and evidence for antibiotic prophylaxis.
To establish expert consensus on best practices.

Main Methods:

A consensus committee of 167 experts from SFAR and 28 surgical societies was convened.
The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology was employed.
An extensive literature review and PICO-based question formulation were conducted.

Main Results:

Nine tables of recommendations were generated, covering various surgical specialties.
Recommendations included varying levels of evidence (GRADE 1+ and 2+).
Expert opinions were utilized where GRADE methodology was not fully applicable.

Conclusions:

Strong expert agreement was achieved for all developed recommendations.
The guidelines aim to enhance antibiotic prophylaxis practices in surgical and interventional procedures.
These updated recommendations are intended to improve patient outcomes and reduce infection rates.
