Assessing Healthcare Professionals' Attitudes Toward Artificial Intelligence in Turkey: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objectives:
To assess healthcare professionals' attitudes toward artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and to identify personal and professional factors shaping these attitudes.
Design:
A cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted in accordance with the STROBE checklist.
Sample:
The study sample consisted of 329 healthcare professionals working in Turkey.
Measurements:
Data were collected between October and December 2024 using Google Forms and a snowball sampling approach. The Personal and Professional Information Form and the General Attitudes Toward AI Scale were used.
Results:
Healthcare professionals' attitudes toward AI were found to be moderately positive overall. Physicians demonstrated more favorable attitudes than nurses, while younger participants, those with higher educational attainment, and male participants reported more positive attitudes toward AI.
Conclusions:
While physicians generally demonstrated positive attitudes toward AI, substantial knowledge gaps and concerns remain among other healthcare professionals, particularly nurses. These findings underscore the need for policy-driven integration of AI competencies into undergraduate health sciences curricula and structured continuing professional development programs. Establishing ethical governance frameworks and standardized educational strategies is essential to ensure responsible use, safeguard data privacy, and promote equitable integration of AI across all healthcare roles.
