Fruit Development, Structure, and Function01:58

Fruit Development, Structure, and Function

25.4K
Fruits form from a mature flower ovary. As seeds develop from the ovules contained within, the ovary wall undergoes a series of complex changes to form fruit. In some fruits, such as soybeans, the ovary wall dries; in other fruits, such as grapes, it remains fleshy. In some cases, organs other than the ovary contribute to fruit formation; such fruits are called accessory fruits.

Physical Assessment of the Respiratory Tract II: Inspection

933
Physical assessment of the respiratory tract through inspection is a crucial step in understanding the patient's respiratory health. It provides insights into the functioning of the respiratory system, the musculoskeletal structure, and even the patient's nutritional status. This comprehensive approach involves observing several vital aspects: chest configuration, breathing patterns, respiratory rates, skin color, and use of accessory muscles.

Internal Energy02:00

Internal Energy

36.8K
The total of all possible kinds of energy present in a substance is called the internal energy (U), sometimes symbolized as E. Suppose a system with initial internal energy, Uinitial, undergoes a change in energy (transfer of work or heat), and the final internal energy of the system is Ufinal. Change in internal energy equals the difference between Ufinal and Uinitial.

Physical Assessment of the Respiratory Tract II: Palpation

2.0K
Physical assessment of the respiratory tract is critical in identifying potential health issues. One key component of this assessment is palpation, a technique healthcare providers use to assess the body for abnormalities. This content explores the method of palpation in evaluating the respiratory tract, focusing on thoracic palpation and tactile fremitus.
Thoracic Palpation
Thoracic palpation detects tenderness, masses, lesions, respiratory excursions, and vocal fremitus. The nurse assesses...

Formulation and Manufacturing Process: Physical Attributes of Generic Tablets and Capsules

338
Bioequivalence in generic drugs, such as tablets and capsules, refers to their pharmaceutical equivalence to the brand-name counterparts. However, for therapeutic equivalence, manufacturers must also consider physical attributes like size, shape, and weight (FDA Guidance for Industry, December 2003). Discrepancies in these aspects could impact patient compliance and cause medication errors. For instance, swallowing difficulties, often experienced with larger tablets or capsules, can lead to...

Internal Receptors01:31

Internal Receptors

74.7K
Many cellular signals are hydrophilic and therefore cannot pass through the plasma membrane. However, small or hydrophobic signaling molecules can cross the hydrophobic core of the plasma membrane and bind to internal, or intracellular, receptors that reside within the cell. Many mammalian steroid hormones use this mechanism of cell signaling, as does nitric oxide (NO) gas.

Area of Science:

  • Gerontology
  • Digital Health
  • Rehabilitation Science

Background:

  • Remote health care and digital interventions are increasingly used for physical function assessment and management.
  • However, the design of these interventions often neglects the specific needs and preferences of older adults.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To establish consumer consensus on preferences for remote assessment and management of physical function among older adults.
  • Utilized a modified Delphi process to gather and analyze consumer input.

Main Methods:

  • A two-round online Delphi survey was administered to adults aged 60 years and older.
  • Statements were developed by a working group and refined based on participant agreement levels (≥70% for consensus).
  • International participants (n=654 in Round 1) provided feedback on 23 statements.

Main Results:

  • 13 out of 23 statements achieved consensus in Round 1, with strong agreement on the importance of physical function for quality of life.
  • Statements on privacy concerns and inability to perform assessments at home were rejected.
  • Round 2 (n=526) refined remaining statements, with 5 of 7 accepted, highlighting preferences for self- vs. clinician-led interventions, exercise formats, and resource availability.

Conclusions:

  • Eighteen statements reached consensus, forming 7 recommendations for remote physical function interventions.
  • Older adults view physical function as a health priority and are open to digital health solutions.
  • Interventions must be accessible and align with individual consumer preferences for successful implementation.
