Most transgender individuals are highly satisfied with Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT), reporting improved emotional well-being and problem resolution. This study assessed satisfaction using the CRES-4 scale in a cohort receiving GAHT for over a year.
Area of Science:
- Endocrinology
- Psychiatry
- Sociology
Background:
- Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT) is known to improve psychological well-being and quality of life.
- However, patient satisfaction with GAHT remains an under-researched area.
- This study aimed to quantify satisfaction levels among transgender individuals undergoing GAHT.
Purpose of the Study:
- To assess patient satisfaction with Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT).
- To evaluate the impact of GAHT on emotional well-being and problem resolution.
- To identify factors influencing satisfaction with GAHT.
Main Methods:
- A cross-sectional observational study was conducted with 83 transgender individuals receiving GAHT for over one year.
- Participants were recruited from a Transgender Medicine Unit.
- Patient satisfaction was measured using the Spanish adaptation of the received treatment satisfaction scale (CRES-4), alongside demographic and clinical data collection.
Main Results:
- 95% of participants reported satisfaction with GAHT, and 75% experienced improved problem resolution.
- Emotional well-being significantly improved, with 68% reporting an acceptable emotional state post-GAHT compared to 9% pre-treatment.
- Satisfaction levels were not significantly correlated with treatment duration, age at initiation, comorbidities, or type of surgery.
Conclusions:
- The majority of transgender individuals express high satisfaction with GAHT when integrated into comprehensive care.
- GAHT effectively enhances emotional well-being and perceived problem resolution.
- These findings underscore the importance of GAHT in improving the quality of life for transgender individuals.
