Abstract:
A method for controlling the particle size to within a few nanometers for BaMO3 (BMO, M = Zr, Hf) nanoparticles (NPs) was developed with the aim of improving the characteristics of REBa2Cu3O y superconducting tapes in magnetic fields. It was demonstrated that by optimizing the synthesis temperature and precisely controlling the amount of added water, the size of BMO NPs could be finely controlled in the range of 1.5 to 7.4 nm using the solvothermal method. This size control is applicable not only to BaHfO3 (BHO) but also to BaZrO3 (BZO). Under the same amount of added water, BZO tends to have a particle size larger than that of BHO. However, it was demonstrated for the first time that NPs with a size of around 2 nm can also be obtained for BZO. GdBa2Cu3O y superconducting films with BHO NPs were prepared by fluorine-free metal organic decomposition (MOD). The resulting critical current of the films was improved in the magnetic field range of 2.0 to 18 T at 20 K.
