  • To identify areas for optimizing care and reducing transfers.

  • Retrospective observational study conducted from January 1 to December 31, 2019.
  • Collected sociodemographic, prehospital, hospital, and referral data for 842 transferred patients.

Main Results:

  • Trauma (28%), digestive (9%), respiratory (9%), and infectious (8%) conditions were primary transfer reasons.
  • Helicopter (36%) and plane (22%) were main transport modes; 71% of patients were hospitalized.
  • Airborne resources are used for both emergencies and non-urgent situations.

Conclusions:

  • French Guiana's geography necessitates significant use of airborne transport for medical transfers.
  • Improving equipment and implementing telemedicine can optimize care and decrease transfers.
  • Addressing challenges in remote healthcare delivery is crucial.
