Effectiveness of Nurse-Led Community Resilience Building Interventions: A Systematic Review

Communities worldwide face unprecedented challenges from climate-related disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and persistent health inequities. However, no systematic review has synthesized evidence on nurse-led interventions specifically designed to build community resilience.

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of nurse-led community resilience-building interventions across different community types, intervention modalities, and outcome measures.

A systematic review following Preferred Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines was conducted across three electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) from database inception through September 2025. Studies evaluating nurse-led interventions to build community resilience were included. Two independent reviewers conducted study selection and data extraction. Study quality was assessed using the Cochrane RoB-2 and ROBINS-I tools. Narrative synthesis was performed due to substantial methodological and clinical heterogeneity across included studies, with structured categorization by population, intervention, and outcome measures.

Six studies from different countries were included, with sample sizes ranging from 42 to 328 participants. Interventions included resilience workshops, social engagement programs, disaster preparedness training, and school-based leadership initiatives. Nurse-led interventions showed significant improvements in psychological resilience, preparedness knowledge and capacity, quality of life, and stress reduction related to acculturation.

Community resilience interventions led by nurses demonstrated positive, significant impacts on resilience, preparedness, and related psychosocial outcomes. Nurses are well-positioned to lead capacity development due to their accessibility, community trust, and expertise in health promotion.
